Day 17 (May 26): Arches National Park

Day's Summary: SUMMARY

Riverside Oasis (Moab, UT)

Filming the "Mission" cabin at the Riverside Oasis. This was the last of two nights I'd stay there, with the Inca Inn the motel at the end of the Day 17. I had originally wanted to stay 3 nights at Riverside, but they were full for that third night, so unfortunately I had to move down the road to the Inca Inn for the third night.

Arches National Park: La Sal Mountains Viewpoint

Windy! Overlook near the entrance to the park.

Arches National Park: Fiery Furnace Hike

This was part of a $10 ranger-led hike into some confusing, mazelike sandstone canyons. It would be easy to get lost. It was fairly strenuous with lots of stretching and climbing (not rock face climbing but lifting yourself up onto bigger rocks, etc.) but an enjoyable hike.

The ranger did a fine job, and you can see him to the right in this video.

Arches National Park: Fiery Furnace Hike

More of the hike.

Arches National Park: Fiery Furnace Hike

This is Surprise Arch, which Superintendent Bates Wilson discovered on December 13, 1963. That's what the ranger is describing.

It's named Surprise for a reason. You don't expect it and you only see it when you look up! Surprise!

Arches National Park: Landscape Arch

I went on a hike in Devil's Garden mainly to see this arch. It's only the second longest natural arch in the world, but it seems so thin! Pretty amazing. I also do a 360 degree panorama.

Arches National Park: Delicate Arch Hike From A Distance

Great view of the slickrock from a pull-off on the Arches Entrance Road just south of the Delicate Arch Viewpoint Road.

Inca Inn (Moab, UT)

Showing off the courtyard of the Inca Inn, and going inside. Room 101? I can feel it...I'm the world's greatest!
